Preparing for Laser Hair Removal
If you plan on undergoing laser hair removal, you should limit plucking, waxing, and electrolysis for six weeks before treatment. That’s because the laser targets the hairs’ roots, which are temporarily removed by waxing or plucking. You should also avoid sun exposure for six weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective and makes complications after treatment more likely.
What to Expect
Just before the procedure, the hair-bearing area will be trimmed to a few millimeters above the skin surface. The laser equipment will be adjusted according to the color, thickness, and location of your hair being treated . This is accomplished by doing Test Spots of varying laser strengths.
Eye protection will be used throughout the procedure. The Zimmer cooling device will be used to cool the top layer of skin to minimize the risk of blistering or lightening of the area.
Ice packs may be used to reduce the small amount of inflammation associate with the hairs destruction. Expect to see small red possibly raised areas around each of the treated hair follicles.
Your second treatment of laser hair removal in our Shreveport office should be scheduled in the next 4 to 6 weeks to allow for the hair bulbs that were in the dormant stage (40% or more of your total hair number) to develop enough color to be targeted by the laser. You should get treatments until the hair grow stops. Lighter hair may take more than 5 treatments.
