3 Minute Read:

For years, liposuction has been one of the most popular, transformative, and versatile body sculpting procedures. All you need to do is look at patients’ results, and it’s obvious why liposuction was one of the top five most performed cosmetic surgical procedures in 2020.

One of the best parts about liposuction is that it can be performed as a standalone procedure, or it can be combined with any number of plastic surgery procedures, such as tummy tuck surgery, to help give patients the contoured appearance they desire.

Below, we will explore liposuction and how this procedure can help you get rid of unwanted fat to achieve the body aesthetic of your dreams.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction surgery is a minimally invasive procedure in which fat cells are removed from your body. Liposuction can be performed on virtually any area of the body, but the most common areas tend to be the abdomen, arms, and thighs. And what’s even better than getting rid of excess fat is that once the fat cells are gone, they’re gone permanently. It is important to remember that while the removed cells will not return, the remaining fat cells can still grow in size if a healthy lifestyle is not followed.

For years, liposuction was performed the same way: small incisions were made in the target area, a cannula (a thin, hollow tube) was inserted through the incisions to loosen the subcutaneous fat, and the fat was vacuumed out of the body through the cannula.

While the basics of this procedure have not changed, technological advancements have made this procedure easier and more efficient than ever!

What Are the Technological Improvements to Liposuction?

With the advent of power-assisted liposuction and tumescent liposuction, liposuction has become safer, more comfortable, and more effective for reducing unwanted pockets of fat from the body.

Power-assisted liposuction

While your power-assisted liposuction (PAL) procedure is virtually the same as with traditional liposuction (in the sense that small incisions will be made and a cannula will be inserted in the body), even more fat can be removed with power-assisted liposuction.

This is because traditional liposuction requires the cosmetic surgeon to use the cannula to loosen the stubborn fat manually, whereas power-assisted liposuction uses a vibrating tipped cannula that is able to loosen more fat than ever before. This allows for smoother results than other forms of liposuction. After the fat has been loosened with the vibrating cannula, it is removed from the body, and you are able to begin your liposuction recovery

After your power-assisted liposuction procedure, you can achieve an even more contoured aesthetic, whether it be in your midsection or elsewhere on your body.

Tumescent Fluid

One of the most important improvements to traditional liposuction is the use of tumescent fluid. This fluid is inserted into the treatment area after the anesthesia has been administered. The tumescent fluid is composed of saline (salt water) and lidocaine (an anesthetic agent) to help minimize any discomfort during the surgery while also limiting bruising and blood loss, both during and after the liposuction procedure. Ultimately, the tumescent liposuction technique helps to create a safer, more efficient fat-removal procedure.

How Can Liposuction Help You?

Liposuction offers several benefits, both physically and psychologically. Not only can you achieve more attractive curves with a more contoured and defined physique, but you can find yourself feeling more confident and comfortable about the way you look. Whether on the beach, at the pool, during more intimate times, or simply at the grocery store, no longer do you need to feel worried about your excess fat.

Instead, you can smile, knowing that you look as good as you feel!
