2 Minute Read:

If you have worked hard to maintain or improve your figure but are plagued with loose, flabby arms, you may feel uncomfortable wearing short-sleeved or sleeveless apparel.

The upper arms are notoriously difficult to tone, especially for women. Because of this, many turn to plastic surgery.

Our skin produces less collagen as we age, causing it to loosen over time. Weight fluctuations also contribute to this, and once the skin stretches, it often does not contract.

The upper arms tend to be affected to a larger degree than other areas of the body, even with a healthy diet and exercise routine. While exercise can strengthen muscles, it can’t address the skin laxity commonly seen in the upper arms.

“Flabby arms” or “bat wings” are a common aesthetic problem, and you are not alone; however, this knowledge does little to ease the self-consciousness you may feel.

Fortunately, there is a solution that can have you wearing your favorite tank tops, camisoles, and sleeveless dresses with confidence.

What Is Brachioplasty?

Brachioplasty is the medical term for arm lift surgery and is a highly effective method to eliminate loose skin from the upper arms.

An arm lift is commonly combined with liposuction or a liposculpting procedure to provide youthful-looking definition.

What Does Arm Lift Surgery Involve?

Brachioplasty is performed under general anesthesia.

An incision will be made along the inside of the arm, starting at the armpit. The length of this incision will depend on the extent of correction needed. While some patients’ arm lift incisions are isolated to the armpit, others in need of more extensive correction require a longer incision that extends down the inner arm, toward the armpit.

Through this incision, excess skin is trimmed away, and the tissues are tightened. Liposuction is used to remove excess fat and sculpt the tissue.

This process provides new upper arm contours for a more fit and appealing appearance.

Say Goodbye to Bat Wings

After arm lift surgery, most patients are thrilled at the newly defined and toned appearance of their arms.

While this procedure does not impact or build arm muscles, most patients feel as though their musculature has increased. This is because the excess skin and fat has been removed, allowing your existing muscles to be more visible.

Are My Arm Lift Results Permanent?

While this surgery provides long-lasting results, an arm lift is not necessarily permanent. Additional fat can accumulate in the arms if you do not follow a healthy lifestyle. In addition, the skin will continue to age, meaning additional age-related laxity may develop.
